Considerations When Buying Your Sewer Hose
There are a lot of factors you need to look at when seeking out the best RV sewer hose for you. Listed below are five things you should consider.
We all know RVs have limited spaces so you have to plan how you will fit everything, including your hose. There are vehicles with bumper storages which you can use. If you do this, you need hoses that will fit a standard opening of about 4×4 inches. Assuming that you want a big one that will not feet, look for the ones made with ends you can disengage.
Considering the limited storage in a roving vehicle you cannot afford to bring reserves in case you blow one so you must find a product that will serve you well. That one hose that will be enough for your camping travels.
Some rigs come with basement storages. It is additional storage space, and you might not be as limited as you think so this doesn’t really present a problem.
A Hose’s Thickness
When looking for things you need, you should always consider if it will last you for a very long time. The same is definitely true when choosing the right sewer hose. Always think about how often you will use them. Will you camp regularly or is it something you only do once or twice a year? In any way, no matter how frequent your activities are, you will want to buy the toughest one that will last for years, after a lot of uses. This is where the thickness comes in.
It is quite simple. The further you use your RV, the more you employ your hose, the thicker you need it to be. You should know that these sewer hoses are measured by the mil.
The Amount a Hose Will Cost You
Naturally, everybody has a budget on how much they plan to spend on a hose. If you have the money, sky is the limit. If you are careful with your spending, then you need to work with the funds available to you.
Always remember that the higher the quality, the more expensive it will be. Certainly, if you want the best, you will most probably spend a lot. Fortunately, there are budget-friendly products that could cost less, but still give you better quality, if not the best. You just have to look for the right one.
The Size of Your Hose
Sewer hoses are passageways for your excretions from the RV to a sewer or tank. This requires a hose size that will allow the bigger solid substances to go through it. The flow of the dirt you are trying to do away with should be continuous. You would not want to be hampered by a stuck poop.
Aside from the hose size, you should also consider the tank outlet size. The later models already implemented a standard size, but the old ones might be different. Make sure your hose fits the tank outlet before buying one.
The Length You Need
You will find a lot of hoses with different lengths. Having enough to buy the longest one will ensure you can reach every sewer with whatever distance that comes between you. However, storage can be an issue. And so, you need to find the right balance where it is long enough to reach its targeted site with a size that fits your RV camper.
This is should not be looked over as the best way to get rid of your comfort room garbage, is to be able to reach your dump site. If it’s too short, you might have a difficult time, looking for ways to extend your hose.
Now that you know what to look for in a hose, Let’s start our reviews.
The Best RV Sewer Hose
- Includes RhinoFLEX sewer hose, swivel bayonet adapter, 4-in-1 translucent elbow, two locking rings and two storage caps
- Fittings swivel for ease of use and are detachable
Meet Camco’s best sewer hose on a budget, the RhinoFLEX Sewer Hose Kit. It is a sweet marriage of quality and money, cheap but reliable.
The RhinoFLEX is a 23 mil thick sewer hose manufactured with a heavy-duty polymer material called polyolefin. It is fortified with a steel wire that makes the hose protected from puncture and abrasions. With these two elements, you’re the RhinoFLEX is no doubt a reliable RV partner.
Camco’s RhinoFLEX is offered in two different lengths, the 15 foot and 20 foot versions. The 20-foot model is made up of two 10 foot sections, which mean you can adjust the length from 10 feet to 20 feet easily, depending upon the demand. If you find yourself in need of a longer hose, or a replacement for an old section, you can just buy Camco’s 10-foot extension hose.
The hose’s endings are equipped with lug fittings, locking rings and bayonet fittings with four prongs, that will settle all your doubts about setting it up. One end makes use of the standard bayonet fitting while the other has a 90-degree elbow. This is the end that connects to the ground sewer. The company chose to make it translucent so you will be able to look into it and know when your black and gray tanks are fully drained.
The end fittings spin for better connection. You don’t have to worry about twisting your hose when attaching them to your ground sewers. This will avoid wear and tear and will certainly let you enjoy the product longer than most. If the need arises though, you can replace your end fittings but always make sure to choose ones that have a secure fit.
When you buy Camco’s RhinoFLEX, you also get an adapter suitable to your hose. It is a 4-in-1 connector that will help attach your hoses to whatever ground sewers or any dump sites provided by each camping destination.
We, likewise, recommend that you get a clear adapter your RV’s drain tube end. This will inform you when the water that flows into your black tank is fully drained.
Considering a 20 feet hose, one of the things that come into your mind is how to store it. Fortunately for us, Camco created it as a collapsible hose that crams into itself. Each 10-foot section squeezes into a 39-inch item. Once the job is done, all you have to do is shrink it, put on the free storage caps you get when you buy one, and put it in your trailer. It even fits your 4-inch bumper storages.
Along with its strengths, we will also disclose a couple of complexities this budget hose is expected to have.
The end fittings can come loose during draining if the locks are not secured. Now this can be really uncomfortable, especially when it disconnects during a pumping. All that dirt flying out will make you double check each connection to be tightly secured. When connecting your hose, you have to be really careful and make sure your ends are securely fastened.
One more thing that can be a deal breaker is its vulnerability to being crushed. The reinforced wire fittings will make sure your hose will stay in shape and impervious to other forms of threats like punctures or scrapes. However, if a truck rolls over one it most likely be crushed and in line for replacement.
That’s about it. If these things are not really bothersome for you, Camco’s RhinoFLEX is a good choice, especially if you are with a limited budget.
- Sewer hose has superior abrasion resistance and crush protection
- Includes pre-attached Rhino swivel fittings - bayonet and translucent elbow with 4-in-1 dump station fitting
We have mentioned earlier that the RhinoFLEX comes in two versions. We already discussed in length the 20-foot, this next review is all about its 15-foot counterpart.
As you go through this list, it is likely enough for you to perceive that most are products of Camco. No surprise there as the brand is known to be a leading manufacturer high-quality products, including sewer hoses. Being in the business for 40 years, that is already a given. Although shorter, the 15ft RhinoFLEX certainly does not disappoint.
The hose is a 23 mil thick polyolefin, proven to be really durable. It is reinforced with steel wires, adding to its endurance. It is a product you can use for years to come.
The ends are fitted with lugs, with the same standard setup where one end has a bayonet fitting while the other employs a translucent 90-degree elbow. With this see through accessory you will be able to monitor the progress of your draining. Likewise, the ends can spin, making them easier to attach. You don’t have to twist it to make ends meet, thereby avoiding any scrapes and fatigue on the material.
You will also get a standard adapter with a 4-in1 feature, that comes with multiple steps you can use to fit it through the different sizes of sewage connections. We advise the you to use a transparent adapter too, for proper flow monitoring.
Like the other product, this can be compacted, and stays in this state as long as it is unused, for easier storage. At the same time, you can make them longer by buying a 10-foot extension set, in any event you need a lengthier hose. Storage caps are also included in the package. These will close down and protect the ends of your hoses.
What might be troublesome is its non-tolerance for crushing. If you accidentally go over your hose, you will have to get a new one. Additionally, you need to exert the effort to make sure your connections are secured and tightly fastened. End fittings, if done hastily with an unsure connection can come loose and rain on your camp.
Nevertheless, these are minor things that can easily be overcome with the right attitude.

This thick material also protects the hose from extreme weather and harsh temperatures.
It features an ergonomic ExtendGripTM bayonet which improves its gripping performance.

Another accessory that comes with the set is a transparent elbow that shows you when the draining is done. When you see clean waters pass through them, you are sure you’ve done your job.
The hose is stable even if it is known to be flexible. While in use, it doesn’t wiggle. It is very hard to destroy too. Stepping on it won’t break it, neither will be placing heavy objects atop it.
Many customer reviews also say that if you take really good care of it, proper maintenance, cleaning, and storage, it can last you for years.
Speaking of storing, the hose collapses down to 39 inches. With this size, it can fit anywhere, even your 4-inch bumper.
Unfortunately, the design they used makes it really hard to clean. However, a little effort on how you keep everything neat is nothing compared with the convenience it offers.
- Sewer hose has TPE technology that protects against pinholes and offers superior abrasion resistance and crush protection
- Includes pre-attached Rhino swivel fittings - bayonet and translucent elbow with 4-in-1 dump station fitting
As the name suggests this product can extremely satisfy all your sewer hose needs. This ready to use kit could really be the toughest one you can buy. Like any other 20ft hose kits, this comes with two 10ft hoses that can be used individually or connected for longer distances. If 20ft isn’t enough, you can also buy extensions by 10ft.
Camco RhinoEXTREME is extremely durable. Made from the same TPE material as Camco’s other products and reinforced with steel wires, it is safeguarded from pinholes and has superior resistance from abrasion and are rust and crush protected. Even when you step on it, it easily gets back into its starting form.
How these hoses fit not only with each other but with your RV and the sewer inlet found in your campsites is important to avoid leakage and disconnections during the draining process. Good thing the RhinoEXTREME is made with lug fittings along with bayonet fittings that come with four prongs that will secure the connection.
The fittings that come with the Rhino Kit swivels for easier hookup. The rings are also detachable and can be used with your extensions or replacement hoses.
The RhinoEXTREME kit includes a transparent elbow with a removable adapter with a 4-in1 feature, you can use for sewer inlets with 3 inches, 3.5 inches and 4-inch NPT threaded connection or a 3-inch slip.

- Comes complete with a time-tested CAM lock connector that ensures a leak-proof connection to the sewer outlet
- Hose is designed with its helical coil on the outside, while the inside is much smoother, preventing waste from getting trapped inside the hose
One of the best sewer hoses you will find for sale today, is most probably the Lippert 359724 Waste Master 20ft Extended RV Sewer Hose Management System. These 20ft hose functions smoothly and comes with a lot of features that you will absolutely adore.
The Lippert Waste Master is a UV protected sewer hose that makes it hard to puncture or injure. In any event, they are run over, they will retain its original shape and will not be flattened. Talk about durability.
The one thing that can separate this from any other hose is its use of a connector called a CAM lock that ensures no leakage from the moment they leave your RV, through your hose until they enter your dump site. This locking mechanism was designed to bear with the harshness of abuse from the whole ordeal of draining, which cannot be said for the usual nub-twist tool used by other hoses. Additionally, CAM lock used in this sewer hose is a high-standard quality that is being implemented in the industry of liquid transportation.
This CAM lock also makes this product preferable for those suffering from arthritis and people who have a soft grip. This will reduce the efforts needed to set everything up and is much easier compared to twisting bayonets.
I can say this hose is made intelligently by its manufacturers. The Waste Master highlights a helical coil design outside that provides for a smooth interior which avoids debris from being caught. Traditional hoses sometimes are made with valleys that constrict the flow and catch waste debris. With a completely flushed RV and a debris-free hose, clean up is a child’s play.
How will you know that you are done? Well, Lippert will also be giving you a view port to monitor if you are done. Once clean waters are passing through your hose, you’ll know you are finished.
The product is also armed by a discharging nozzle which has an innovative 90-degree angle. To secure its connection with the sewer grounds, a rubber donut seals it.
You will also find in this nozzle, a valve for shutting-off the ends, preventing leaks when in storage. The same valve also cuts off the flow in any case your sewer ground or dump site becomes full. This is not impossible and might happen to you a few times so it’s better to be prepared.
The Lippert Waste Master will need an installation which you will only do once, involving a CAM lock. It needs to be permanently mounted in the drain pipe in your RV. These pipes usually have bayonet fittings so you will have to remove these four nubs before your can put in your cam lock. However, you can also buy Lippert adapters for your cam lock to fit it with a bayonet fitting in case you need to retain them with your drain pipe for future uses.
Lippert also offers a 20-foot extension if you ever need that extra length.
This sewer hose wonder is collapsible that minimizes to a 5-feet 6 inches long item. However, this is still a large item and with its fittings that are permanently attached, storage may be a bit limited.
Aside from having to look for places where you can keep them, they are more expensive compared to your traditional hoses. This can be a real turn off especially for those who are limited by a budget. Even so, this will most probably last you for a very long time making it worth your money.
- Connects your portable waste tank to any lug sewer fitting
- Assembled kit is 3 feet long extended; 19 inches compressed

These tanks will probably need short hoses ranging from 3 to 5 inches. Camco indeed is prepared to provide you of all your hosing needs as they do offer the RhinoFLEX 3’ Tote Tank Sewer Hose Kit, perfect for your portable device.
This 3 feet hose ensures a secure, clean and easy way to make use of your portable tanks. Being small, installation is a breeze, connection is stable, and it functions as well as can be expected from a Camco product.
This Tote Tank is equipped with a traditional bayonet fit with a 90-degree clear elbow which connects seamlessly to almost all kinds of lug fitting. Just like the standard bayonet, this has four prongs that fastens the connection.
The kit includes a transparent elbow made from resin which was UV stabilized making it sturdy and reliable ensuring years of service.
Camco made the Tote Tank Sewer Hose Kit with a polyolefin material reinforced with a steel wire that says a lot about its dependability.
Like the other Camco hoses, these are also collapsible, meaning, you can adjust it accordingly based on the length you need. Camco collapsible products are just so convenient. When in storage, you should cave them in and put on their free storage caps and lock rings that come with the package.
The Camco Tote Tank Sewer Hose is admittedly on the short side but for portable tanks, I think they are perfect.

Camco’s Heavy-Duty Sewer Hose is built from powerful, high-tensile strength (HTS) vinyl that is 15-mil thick. This 20ft monster hose can be compacted and reduced to as little as 32 inches.

One more thing that will make you love the Sidewinder is the complete lack of the need to assemble. You can immediately use it the moment you open your box, when it arrives at your doorstep.
A thing that can make you a little bit hesitant to use it is the hinges that are a bit flimsy and most of the time easily break. Other than that, this is something you might want to consider when looking for hoses.

The main idea begins with connecting your hose from an RV’s toilet flush in an oustide sewage system. These hoses are detachable so every time you are scheduled to do the deed. You lock one end of the hose from the RV, traditionally through 4 pronged bayonet fittings, while the other one connects with whatever inlet the external sewer has.
Once you begin flushing out your waste, you just wait until you finish. Usually, the elbow connectors used by manufacturers are clear or transparent, allowing you to monitor your progress. You will know when you’re done once you see clear waters traveling through these see-through connectors.

They crush solid waste into smaller bits, making them easier to flush out. This will help you avoid stuck ups during the flushing. They help keep the odor from escaping and also assist in flushing out waste through inclines.
How do they work?
When installing sewer hoses, the steps will depend on what they come with. Today, hose ends are usually made of coil wires or some with plastic or vinyl wires that should be thick enough to hold up. They are locked up through hose fittings.
Hose ends are equipped with lug fittings or bayonet fittings that serve as their locking mechanism and help avoid leaks during the process. If you find this bothersome, you can get yourself some sizing rings to help ease you in the process. You can also go for threaded fittings that can be expensive but worth it.
These ends are then hooked up from your vehicle’s sewers to whatever external sewage inlets available to you. Make sure that your valves are tightly shut-off and your fittings sealed tightly when you do this to avoid disconnection or leakage. Once you are ready, slowly release the valve from your black tank. There is a pressure build up so expect a surge as they enter your hose. Wait for everything to drain, which you will know when you see clear waters passing through your transparent elbow connectors. When you are done, the valve should be closed again to keep everything from going back out. Then do the same for your grey tanks.
Throughout the draining, check your hose for any leaks, hopefully there will be none.
When everything is done and shut off, remove your hose, clean them up and store them. Some may be collapsible so you will need to compress them. Through all of this, you should have used your gloves which you will then throw away properly for sanitation.
How to reduce the length of your rv sewer hose?
Basically, hoses are sold by 15 feet or 20 feet. Extending them is easy, but how about shortening them? Well, if you accidentally bought the wrong length, you can shorten them by cutting a section and getting them back together with a solvent used for your hose’s material.
There are so many things to learn when using RV hoses so you should do your research. What I can surely tell you is that these sewer hoses are necessary if you want to properly clean your RV from all your kitchen and bathroom waste with all the convenience you can get.
