RVing with your family is a very good idea, right? But to be able to do it, you would need to have the right kind of an RV. RVs with regular queen or king beds aren’t going to suffice for 4-people parties. They are great for 2 people, but no more.
The solution to this problem is bunk beds. They add several sleeping areas to an RV while occupying only little room. And this is really important in RVs where there isn’t too much room in the first place.
Without further ado, let’s have a look at the top 8 of our favorite RVs with bunk beds!
Coachmen Apex Nano series is overall one of the most comfortable sub-5000lb travel trailer lines available out there. A couple of the models from this series has bunk beds. One of those models is 193BHS, which has a pretty expansive floorplan.
Given that this travel trailer isn’t particularly huge, it delivers plenty of comfort for the size. This is the main thing that we like this trailer for. And overall, the whole Apex Nano series has a lot of room to offer.
We’ve mentioned that the Apex Nano trailers all weigh under 5000 pounds. The trailer with the 193BHS floorplan has a dry weight of just 3495 pounds. This would make it suitable for owners of not so powerful towing vehicles.
But in spite of its light weight, this trailer has some pretty good cargo carrying capacity to boast – to be precise, 1205 pounds. So there is plenty of room for adding new stuff to this trailer.
The sleeping space in this trailer is also great for its size. The 60 x 80-inch bed provides 2 people with sleeping space. In addition, the back left corner of this trailer is occupied by two bunk beds, each sized at 30” x 74”.
And, of course, this trailer has basic amenities like a dinette and a bathroom.
Coachmen also include plenty of stuff in their base packages like a 2-burner cooktop, a double-door refrigerator, a solar prep, outside shower, security equipment like smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, and many other things.
But while the base package of the Apex Nano 193BHS is pretty versatile, there are two things we wish it had: a furnace and an AC unit. Those are available as expansions, so one would need to spend extra money on them.
In the end, as we already mentioned, we like this trailer very much for the level of comfort it delivers for its size.
Class C motorhomes can be very good when it comes to the balance of price and convenience. Not quite as expensive as Class A motorhomes, the level of comfort they deliver isn’t that far behind.
Forest River Sunseeker LE3250DSLE corresponds to this definition pretty good. Certainly, it isn’t as roomy and comfy as a pricey Class A motorhome would be, but it still is a good RV.
If you have a look at the floorplan of this model, you’ll understand what we mean. This 32 feet long and 100 inches wide RV sure does fit plenty of stuff in it.
Of course, it has the basic amenities like a 42 x 68-inch dinette, a 60 x 74-inch queen bed, as well as a bathroom. In fact, the bathroom of this unit isn’t as cramped as in some layouts where it is located in the back of the RV.
Aside from these amenities, there is plenty of other things in this motorhome. Namely, it has got a couple of sofas with footrests, as well as a kid’s sofa sleeper. And what’s more important for us today is that this RV has a 60 x 80-inch bunk area above the driver seat, as well as a smaller 20 x 72-inch flip-down bunk.
Interestingly, the bunk area above the driver is equipped with a LED TV. However, such a placement is a bit weird for people who aren’t lying in the bunk bed.
There are also plenty of other amenities included with this Class C motorhome, like a 30,000 BTU furnace, a 4KW Onan Microquiet generator, CO, LP, and smoke detectors, a 13,500BTU ceiling ducted roof air, and many other items.
There are also some interesting options available, including a bigger 15,000BTU AC unit and an automatic leveling system.
You don’t really have to get a Class C motorhome to enjoy comfort on the road. Cherokee Destination 39SR could be good for people who don’t mind to tow a vehicle behind.
In fact, this trailer has been designed with a little bit different thing in mind. It is suitable for those who want to reach a destination and settle there for a couple of weeks or even months. This trailer has plenty of comfort in it to deliver a very home-like feeling.
First of all, it is very wide and long – 42 feet 9 inches long and 97 inches wide, to be exact. Thanks to this, even though this trailer has a lot of amenities, there is a lot of room in it.
It has got a quite roomy bedroom, a small living-room-like area with a sofa, a couple of armchairs, and a TV. The kitchen area in the front is also separated from the rest of the areas. It’s pretty big as well, even though it has plenty of amenities.
The bedroom area is particularly notable in this trailer. It has two levels, with the first level occupied by a queen size bed along with a plentitude of shelves. The second level is occupied with a pair of 36 x 74-inch bunk matts, a nightstand, as well as a couple of cabinets.
In terms of package options, this trailer seems not to be too feature-rich. Namely, it seems not to come with a furnace or an AC unit out of the dealership. But maybe this is because Forest River didn’t bother to make a comprehensive list of the included features.
So what can we say about Cherokee Destination 39SR in the end? Well, it’s a trailer where you can live for a long time pretty comfortably. And besides, we liked its vintage interior with a plentitude of wooden elements and inserts.
This Cherokee trailer isn’t as roomy as the Cherokee Destination we’ve just examined. But while Cherokee 294BH may not have the same organized home-like feel, it can still boast plenty of room and comfort.
In particular, what interests us today is bunk beds. And this travel trailer has 3 of them: a double bunk plus a single flip-up bunk. Add to this the queen bed, and you are getting 5 sleeping areas with this travel trailer.
The main reason why you aren’t getting the same home feel as from Cherokee Destination is that the living and kitchen areas are blended with each other. We don’t know about you, but we like it more when everything has its place, which is why we don’t quite like the two-in-one kitchen and living area.
In reality, this is a common thing for RVs. But after the interior Cherokee Destination, it really stings the eye.
What’s more important though is that this RV is roomy and comfy. It has all kitchen amenities one would need, as well as a dinette and an adjacent sofa.
What should be also noted about this travel trailer is its cargo carrying capacity. This trailer weighs 7899 pounds when unloaded and has headroom of 3204 pounds. So yeah, one could add plenty of stuff to this travel trailer.
Speaking of stuff, Forest River has plenty features included into this trailer’s base package. Most importantly, it comes with a 13,500 BTU AC unit, as well as with most of the basic kitchen and entertainment amenities.
Winnebago Minnie Plus is pretty similar to Cherokee 294BH, but there are two things that we like better in this trailer.
First of all, it has got quite a big shower cabin. Shower cabins are commonly very compact and restrictive in travel trailers, so it is nice to see a cabin that is close to a regular full-size home cabin.
And overall, the bathroom in this travel trailer is quite roomy.
The second thing that we like in this trailer is its larger 42 x 74-inch double bunk bed compartment. Needless to say, these larger bunk beds are going to be more comfortable than the more traditional 30 x 74-inch beds.
Just like Cherokee 294BH, Minnie Plus 27BHSS provides plenty of headroom in terms of cargo. Weighing 6620 pounds when unloaded, this trailer allows for an additional 3375 pounds.
What should be also noted about this travel trailer is that it has an exterior refrigerator, as well as a pull-out kitchen. These can make your life a little bit more convenient when spending some time outside the RV.
Minnie Plus 27BHSS comes very equipped out of the dealership, which is a traditional thing for Winnebago. In particular, this travel trailer comes with things like LP gas, carbon monoxide detectors, a big 8 cu. ft. double door gas/electric refrigerator, a 3-burner cooktop with an oven, a microwave, 35,000 BTU furnace, and a 15,000 BTU AC.
As you could have noticed, the kitchen in this travel trailer is pretty well equipped. Not that the other RVs had poor kitchens, but the kitchen in this trailer allows for some good cooking.
Dutchmen Aspen Trail 2710BH is among the more compact travel trailers available out there. On one hand, it isn’t as roomy as some other RVs on the list. On the other, it is lighter and more compact, so it could be towed to weaker vehicles.
When you look at the floorplan of this travel trailer, you immediately notice how wide its bunk beds are. Dutchmen don’t indicate their size, but they should be around 42 x 70 inches, about the same as Winnebago Minnie Plus.
But unlike the Minnie Plus travel trailer, this trailer is a bit more limited when it comes to free room. That’s simply because it is narrower and shorter. As a result, you get a smaller bathroom, as well as less free interior room left.
However, in terms of amenities, Aspen Trail trailer is pretty similar to Winnebago’s model. Namely, it comes with things like a 13,500 BTU air conditioner, a 3-burner range with an oven, a 6 cu. ft. refrigerator, a high-output furnace, etc.
The cargo carrying capacity of this trailer is also notable. This thing can take up additional 2,789 pounds, which would allow you to add plenty of your own amenities to it.
Overall, Dutchmen Aspen Trail 2710BH offers around the same features as Winnebago Minnie Plus but at a smaller scale.
When it comes to comfort, no RV class can compare with Class A motorhomes. These motorhomes are both very easy in driving and comfortable in living. However, as you’d expect, they have a much higher price.
Class A motorhomes can be very different from each other though. Some cost close to $500 thousand, while others are closer to the $100 thousand mark. Nexus 2019 Maybach 37M Class A motorhome is closer to the latter.
Not a very expensive Class A motorhome, Maybach 37M certainly is behind the higher-end Class A motorhomes in terms of comfort. Still, it has a couple of pretty noteworthy things.
The first thing to catch the eye in the 37M floorplan is the fact that it has two toilets. One is located in a bathroom with a sink and shower, while the other has just a sink nearby.
Not everyone needs two toilets. But people who’ll be traveling with their family will certainly appreciate motorhomes with more than one WC.
What also interests us today is bunk beds. This Class A motorhome has a 30 x 74-inch bunk bed. Combined with the king size bed, this makes for 4 sleeping places in this motorhome. Interestingly, Nexus also allows you to swap out the bunk beds for an optional wardrobe, which could be great for 2-people parties.
What about amenities? Well, as you’d probably expect from a Class A motorhome, there is plenty of them in Maybach 37M.
In its stock package, this motorhome comes with two 13,500 BTU AC units – one in the bedroom and one in the living room. In addition, this motorhome comes with a powerful 40,000 BTU furnace.
The kitchen in this motorhome is quite equipped as well. It comes with a 7.5 cu. ft. refrigerator with a freezer, a 3-burner stovetop, and an over-the-range microwave. Security measures like LP and carbon monoxide detectors are also provided.
In the end, the thing that we liked the most in Nexus 2019 Maybach 37M motorhome is its combo of living and driving comfort, as well as its quite cheap price.
Heartland Sundance 241 BH travel trailer
Not everyone needs a Class A motorhome or a high-end travel trailer to enjoy their journey. Sure, the pricier RVs have more to offer. But some people are completely alright with the cheaper RVs that have the same basic features, albeit on a smaller scale.
With this in mind, we chose Heartland Sundance 241BH as the last model on the list of our favorite RVs with bunk beds. It is a compact and not very expensive model, but it still has some great things to boast. This trailer is quite similar to Dutchmen Aspen Trail 2710BH we showcased a bit earlier.
The first thing to mention in this travel trailer is its wide bunk beds. Heartland doesn’t provide the precise size of these bunk beds, but they should be sized around 72 x 40-50 inches. The bunk beds are nearly as wide as the included queen size bed.
The wide bunk beds leave less room for the adjacent bathroom. Not that the bathroom is very confined, but maybe some people would like to see narrower bunk beds and a bigger bathroom.
Heartland Sundance 241BH travel trailer is pretty compact, sized at about 27 x 8 feet. It definitely isn’t the smallest RV out there, but it has less free room in it than the other RVs on our list.
But in spite of its compactness, the Sundance travel trailer has plenty of amenities to boast. It has got a 30,000 BTU furnace, a 13,500 BTU air conditioner, a 3-burner cooktop with an oven, a 6 cu. ft. refrigerator, as well as a 55A converter.
And there also are options available like a second AC unit in the bedroom, 32/39-inch LED TV, and 50A service in the trailer.
And yeah, this travel trailer also has 2,321 pounds of cargo carrying capacity to boast.
So overall, what we like about this travel trailer is that it packs a lot of features in a small room. In this sense, this trailer is similar to the Dutchmen Aspen Trail trailer, as we already mentioned.
